External Exam - evaluation of the white of the eyes, cornea, eyelids, eyelashes, pupils, and iris
Internal Exam - evaluation of the retina, vitreous, lens, macula, and optic nerve (generally with dilation)
Glaucoma Screening - check of fluid pressure within the eye
Refraction - evaluation of visual acuity to determine if corrective lenses are required to improve your vision
Visual Function - evaluation of peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception, eye muscles, and pupillary response to light
Comprehensive exams involve assessing your total health. It’s helpful to know your current medications, the health of your immediate family, and your medical history. Other helpful information includes your social history, like the amount and type of tobacco used and amount of alcohol consumed regularly.
